I love Oswald Chambers and his My Utmost for His Highest book. After doing an entire study on the True Vine, I still have more to learn on my abiding and intimacy with Jesus:
January 7 - "Friendship is rare on earth. It means identity in thought and heart and spirit....We receive His blessings and know His Word, but do we know Him?...When once we get intimate with Jesus we are never lonely, we never need sympathy, we can pour out all the time without being pathetic. The saint who is intimate with Jesus will never leave impressions of himself, but only the impression that Jesus is having unhindered way, because the last abyss of his nature has been satisfied by Jesus. The only impression left by such a life is that of the strong calm sanity that Our Lord gives to those who are intimate with Him."
Oh to be intimate like this! I can think of one person in my life who has left such a lasting impact on my life. Every time I talked with her, shared with her and spilled my heart out to her, I was pointed to Jesus. Through her I saw Jesus and God and all of the truths of scripture that I needed to hear for whatever I was going through.
I long to be that sort of friend and person to those around me! I long to be intimate with Jesus, yes, selfishly because I need Him to fill up the "abyss" of my heart. And secondly, so that filling could overflow to others.
