Friday Favorites - Jesus Calling

One of my all-time favorite yearly devotionals is:

by Sarah Young

Sarah Young was a missionary in the early 1990s in Australia, ministering to Japanese immigrants in Melbourne.  She began writing this book out of a desire to experience more of the presence of God on a daily basis.  Her inspiration was a book by Andrew Murry called, The Believer's Secret of the Abiding Presence.

I love Jesus Calling because Scripture is woven into to each day.  Her book is unique in that each day's reading is written from the perspective of Jesus talking to you.

Here is an excerpt:

  January 2
Relax in My healing Presence. As you spend time with Me, your thoughts tend to jump ahead to today's plans and problems.  Bring your mind back to Me for refreshment and renewal. Let the Light of My Presence soak into you, as you focus your thoughts on Me. Thus I equip you to face whatever the day brings.  This sacrifice of time pleases Me and strengthens you. Do not skimp on our time together. Resist the clamor of tasks waiting to be done. You have chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from you. Luke 10:39-42; Psalm 105:4

There are many different versions of the Jesus Calling book.  When I did it back in 2012, I was given the 365-Day Journaling Devotional (link below).  There are empty lines under each devotional.  I decided to make those prayers to God, in response to what I had read.
